Joe Romano Title: Novel Strategies Using ToF-MS for Multi-residue Screening Analyses Abstract: In order to detect the unlawful use of pesticides it has become increasingly common to use multi-residue screening methods. These methods usually employ tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry and are typically used to target 100 to 200 residues in a single analysis. In this presentation we will focus on a novel technique that has the ability to screen for unexpected as well as targeted residues. ACQUITY Ultra Performance LC™ and GC chromatography, coupled to time of flight (ToF) mass spectrometry, provides highly sensitive, exact-mass spectra of all ionisable components in the chromatogram. Using ChromaLynx™ software, these spectra can be automatically deconvoluted and searched against libraries to tentatively identify compounds. The number of compounds that may be detected is limited by the number of entries in the library and where standards are not available, theoretical libraries may be generated. The exact-mass measurements from the ToF spectra are used to filter the library hit list and add an extra degree of confidence in the results. |

Dr Thomas Meaker Title: Using Novel Autosamplers Coupled With GCMS For Pesticide Screening Analysis In Solid Sample Matrices Abstract: This seminar will report the results of using autosamplers that require minimal sample preparation for the screening and determination of pesticides in solid matrices. Soil samples, for example, can be screened for pesticides (and other organics) using temperature desorption methods to liberate organic compounds for analysis by GCMS. Results showing head space sampling as well as thermal desorption sampling will be provided. |

Ministry of Environment) Title 1: Moving into the Future with QTRAPTM LCMSMS Technology. Applications Made Simple: What you really can do with LCMSMS and QTRAPTM Abstract: The demands on today’s analytical laboratory are expanding at a very rapid rate. In order to keep up with the changes in detection limits, reduction in sample costs and increased throughput the modern food lab needs to take advantage of the best technology possible. The advances in LCMSMS and QTRAPTM technology can help reduce sample prep, increase through put and lower detection limits while remaining relatively inexpensive and easy to use. This talk with concentrate on advances in LCMSMS technology and applications relevant to the food industry such as Aflatoxins, Sudan Dyes, pesticides and much more. Title 2: Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry Analysis of Pesticides and Emerging Organic Pollutants in the Environment |
| Agilent Technologies Seminar,
presented by Dr. Michael Zumwalt Title: Expanding Your LCMS Choices: Introducing the Agilent 6410 Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer Abstract: The year 2006 is an exciting time for Agilent Technologies to introduce such a large variety of analytical tools ranging from new LC columns and systems to LC/MS instrumentation. In this presentation, an overview of one particular LC/MS instrument, the Agilent 6410 Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer, is given. Analytical capabilities such as sensitivity, reproducibility and linearity will be presented, along with unique software features in control and data processing. |
